The Les Bernard Jewelry Company was founded in 1963 by Bernard Shapiro. He was the son of Harold Shapiro, founded of Vogue Jewelry. The company name is the combination of the names of Bernard Shapiro and his designer partner Lester Joy. The hallmarks for the company were LES BERNARD, LES BERNARD, INC, and, if sterling STERLING LES BERNARD. Les Bernard also produced jewelry for others, including Mary McFassen, James Galanos, and the television show, Dynasty. The Les Bernard Company ceased production in 1996.
